The Health Foundation Qs – recruiting now in Yorkshire

Q is a national network that connects people with improvement knowledge and enthusiasm within the UK.

Q’s mission is to foster continuous and sustainable improvement in health and care. To support this, the Health Foundation, creates opportunities for Qs to network, share ideas, enhance skills and collaborate on improvement projects.

The original inspiration for Q came from Don Berwick’s vision for 5,000 safety improvement fellows working within the National Health Service. To bring this idea to life NHS Improvement and The Health Foundation worked with a cohort of founding members to co-design Q. Nine Improvement Fellows from Yorkshire and Humber were part of this founding cohort. Details of all Y&H Qs can be found on the Health Foundation Q directory.

Q is not a taught programme, but a network of support for those already knowledgeable in undertaking improvement. There is no membership fee or minimum time commitment. Q is designed to support busy people with their current improvement work, on-going development and promote their visibility as a leader of improvement.

The Q community is now growing, and applications from the West of England, South West England, North East and Cumbria have been underway during autumn 2016, with 352 new members coming on board in February 2017. Over the coming years it is envisaged that Q will become a community of thousands of people with improvement expertise.

The Improvement Academy will be recruiting the next wave of Yorkshire Qs on behalf of the Health Foundation. The application window open on 9th March 2017 and will remain open for 4 weeks. See their website here

We believe Q offers an excellent opportunity for the Improvement Academy’s existing Y&H Improvement Fellows. We see that Q has the potential to complement the Yorkshire scheme and in turn the Yorkshire scheme, strengthen Q. If you are already an Improvement Fellow with us we would encourage you to apply to become a Q.

Our vision is that Q will seamlessly sit alongside our existing Improvers’ network and provide each Fellow with a structured and supportive gateway to the national Q Community. The advantage will be that individuals becoming Qs will be known to the Academy and have an existing infrastructure of support and development.

For more information, support, or to become an Improvement Fellow please contact Alison Lovatt  or Clare Ashby .
